Organised by HKBU, the Golf Day attracted over 180 participants
The HKBU · ASHWORTH Golf Day 2022 was held with great success on 4 November 2022 at the Eden Course of The Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. The annual signature event has been sponsored by the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation through the internationally-renowned clothing brand ASHWORTH for the past three years. ASHWORTH also sponsored the event’s golf shirts for the second year.
The event attracted over 180 participants, including 146 golf lovers who formed 37 teams to take part in the tournament. A total of HK$2.25 million was successfully raised for the HKBU Foundation in support of the University’s strategic development, particularly the six interdisciplinary research laboratories for expanding research strengthens, Project SEED (Student Engagement, Enrichment and Development), as well as the provision of scholarships for needy students to pursue further studies or to participate in overseas exchange activities. As one of the major fundraising and fellowship events of the University, the annual Golf Day has raised over HK$23 million over the past 19 years.
Officiating at the cheque presentation ceremony cum ceremonial tee-off were Mr. Carlson Tong, GBS, JP, Chairman of the University Grants Committee; Ms. Shirley Chan, BBS, JP, representative of the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation and Vice Chairman of the YGM Group; Mr. Allan Kwong, President and Chief Executive of the Regal Holdings Corporation and the event’s Venue Sponsor; Mr. Daniel O’Neill, Director of Golf at The Hong Kong Golf Club; Dr. Ronald Lu, Co-Chairman of the event’s Organising Committee; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP, Vice Chairman of the Kum Shing Group (representative of Ir Dr. K.K. Wong Co-Chairman of the Organising Committee); Ir Professor Paul Poon, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Rick Wong, Interim Provost; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
Following rounds of exciting competition, a dinner cum prize presentation ceremony was held in the same evening. Professor Alexander Wai gave a speech to express his gratitude to the sponsors of the event, particularly the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation and ASHWORTH as well as the Regal Holdings Corporation respectively for being Title Sponsor and Venue Sponsor. He also thanked members of the Organising Committee for their unwavering support in organising such a wonderful and fruitful event.
Furthermore, a souvenir was presented to Mr. Ron Tsang, Chairman of the Tsang Chik Kwai Tong Charity Foundation, in recognition of the Foundation’s staunch support for the event over the past 15 years. Fine wine auction and lucky draw sessions were also held, which were well received by the guests.
