HKBU’s annual golf event attracts over 220 participants
“HKBU Foundation 15th Anniversary • ASHWORTH Golf Day 2024” was held with unprecedented success on 8 November 2024 at the Eden Course of The Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. In celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the HKBU Foundation, this signature event gathered over 220 community leaders, alumni, faculty and students, raising a record-breaking HK$2.8 million. The proceeds will be used to support the University’s strategic development, especially in launching sports science research, funding students’ participation in the “Extended Study Programme” in the Greater Bay Area, and supporting overseas exchange activities.
The event has been sponsored by the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation through the internationally-renowned clothing brand ASHWORTH for five consecutive years. ASHWORTH also sponsored the event’s golf shirts for the fourth year. Harmony Auto, a first-time sponsor of the event, generously offered a BYD Seal AWD electric vehicle valued at HK$412,000 as the grand prize for achieving a Hole-in-One on the 17th hole. This contribution further enhanced the excitement of the competition.
Officiating at the cheque presentation ceremony cum ceremonial tee-off were Mr. Andrew Chan, representative of the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation and ASHWORTH; Mr. Allan Kwong, Chairman of Regal Holdings Corporation and the event’s venue sponsor; Mr. Xu Ting, Chief Representative of BYD Hong Kong; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP, Co-Chairman of KF KK Foundation Limited; Mr. Daniel O’Neill, Director of Golf of The Hong Kong Golf Club; Dr. Ronald Lu, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Golf Day; Dr. Stanley Yim, SBS, BBS, JP, Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation; and together with Ir Professor Paul Poon, MH, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court; Professor Martin Wong, Provost; Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School and Acting Dean of Chinese Medicine; Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Rick Wong, Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement of HKBU and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
Among the notable guests in attendance were Mr. Huen Wong, SBS, JP, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited; Dr. Edward Chan, MH, Founder and Managing Director of German Pool (Hong Kong) Limited; Mrs. Mary Suen, MH, Director of SML Group; Professor Cliff Sun, BBS, JP, Honorary President of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries; and Mr. Augustine Wong, JP, Executive Director of Henderson Land Development Company Limited.
A total of 166 golfers formed 43 teams to compete for 30 awards. Ms. Mimi Ho and Ms. Phyllis Tang, veteran golfers in Hong Kong, once again took on the role of Golf Promotion Ambassadors. They energised the atmosphere by challenging the participants on the course.
At the prize presentation ceremony cum dinner held that evening, Professor Martin Wong delivered a speech expressing his gratitude for the generous support received from various sectors. He recognised both organisations and individuals that have sponsored the Golf Day for 20 and 15 years, including KF KK Foundation Limited; Mr. Timothy Lam Jr., Governing Director of The Chung Shun Land Investment Company Limited; Mr. So Wing Kin, Managing Director of Glad Link Properties Limited; Mr. Lau Pak Shing, Managing Director of Compass Holdings Limited; Mr. Norman Wu, Director of Wu Yee Sun Charitable Foundation Limited; Shun Hing Group; Baptist Chemists; and Mr. Kenneth Ting Woo Shou, SBS, JP, Chairman of Kader Holdings Company Limited.
A short video was presented to recap the 15-year journey and significant contributions of the HKBU Foundation in advancing the development of the University and the community. The vibrant dinner also featured a wine auction and a lucky draw.
