The HKBU.ASHWORTH Golf Day 2020 was held with great success on 30 October 2020 at the Eden Course of The Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. The event was presented by the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation in the name of the clothing brand ASHWORTH.
The event attracted over 170 participants including 133 golf-lovers who formed 34 teams to take part in the tournament. A total of HK$2.22 million was successfully raised for the HKBU Foundation in support of the University’s strategic development, particularly the recent establishment of six interdisciplinary research laboratories to expand its research strengths, Project SEED (Student Engagement, Enrichment and Development), as well as the provision of scholarships for needy students to pursue further studies or to participate in overseas exchange activities. As one of the major fundraising and fellowship events, the annual Golf Day has raised an aggregate amount of HK$20.2 million in the past 17 years. As a token of appreciation, souvenirs were presented to Hang Sang Bank, the SML Group, Mr. Nelson Lam Pak Yu and Dr. Leung Lun, BBS, MH, in recognition of their staunch support for the Golf Day for 10 years.
The ceremonial tee-off cum the cheque presentation ceremony was officiated by Mr. Peter Chan, representative of ASHWORTH and the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation; Mr. Allan Kwong, the event’s Venue Sponsor; Mr. Dean Nelson, Director of Golf at The Hong Kong Golf Club; Dr. Ronald Lu and Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, GBS, JP, FHKEng, Co-Chairmen of the Organising Committee; Professor Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
After rounds of keen competition, a dinner cum prize presentation ceremony was held. In his address, Mr. Yeung Chee Kong, Associate Vice-President (Engagement), expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the sponsors of the event, particularly ASHWORTH and the Chan Yin Chuen Memorial Charitable Foundation as well as Mr. Allan Kwong for being Title Sponsor and Venue Sponsor respectively. He also thanked members of the Organising Committee for their invaluable advice which facilitated the smooth running of the event. There was also a “Lucky Draw” session after the prize presentation ceremony.
To secure more resources for the University, a charity auction of fine wines was held this year. The fun-filled moments at the Golf Day would be captured in the newspaper supplements published in Hong Kong Economic Times and Sing Tao Daily on 6 November 2020.
