HKBU receives HK$4 million from Cathay Photonics
The University recently received a generous donation of HK$4 million from Cathay Photonics Limited in support of a project entitled “Advanced Plastics Electronic Materials” to be conducted by the Institute of Advanced Materials under the Faculty of Science.
Cathay Photonics Limited is a spin-off company of HKBU, founded by a group of physicists and engineers with extensive experience in photonics and optoelectronics industries. Led by Professor Cheah Kok Wai, Dr. Elizabeth K.S. Law Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials of HKBU, the company developed a patented thin sapphire film that is ultra-hard, anti-scratch which is suitable for touch screen devices.
The company has been a member of HKBU Foundation since 2015 and is currently Honorary President of the Foundation.
