Nine Foundation members and two donors receive honours from HKSAR Government
Nine HKBU Foundation members and two donors of the University were included in this year’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Honours List in recognition of their significant contributions to Hong Kong and their dedicated public and community service.
Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM)
The Hon. Bernard Charnwut Chan, GBM, GBS, JP, President of the Asia Financial Group, Senior Member of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the GBM in recognition of his exemplary contribution to good governance across a very extensive spectrum of public affairs over the years. Mr. Chan has served Hong Kong with a distinguished record of public service in many key public entities and government advisory bodies, commanding a deep understanding of public policy-making and feeling the pulse of the community. In particular, he made tremendous contribution to the developments of arts and culture, social services, conservation of historic buildings and higher education. As the Convenor of the Non-official Members of the Executive Council since July 2017, Mr. Chan has tendered insightful advice and innovative ideas in the policy-making process and is hence well respected by his peers. Mr. Chan is also a successful entrepreneur in the financial services sector.
Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS)
Mr. Peter Wong Tung Shun, GBS, JP, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Asia-Pacific of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the GBS in recognition of his dedicated public and community services and distinguished contribution to the financial services sector in Hong Kong. Under Mr. Wong's leadership, the Community Chest of Hong Kong has taken a new and forward step to re-establish its funder role as an innovative and proactive organisation, in tune with the needs of Hong Kong people. Being a seasoned banker, he has rendered useful advice that contributes to maintaining Hong Kong’s financial and monetary stability, as well as strengthening Hong Kong’s status as an international financial centre.
Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS)
Dr. Dennis Ng Wang Pun, SBS, MH, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee and President of The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the SBS in recognition of his significant contribution to the industrial development in Hong Kong and facilitating exchange between the Government and the business sector. Dr. Ng serves with dedication on a number of industry and trade related boards. Under his leadership, the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong assists local businesses in brand building and promotion, as well as exploring the Mainland market. Dr. Ng is also strongly committed to promoting the Belt and Road initiative. He is currently Managing Director of Polaris Arts & Jewellery Limited.
Ms. Pansy Catilina Ho Chiu King, SBS, JP, Chairperson of the Hong Kong Federation of Women, Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the SBS in recognition of her dedicated public and community service, in particular her significant contribution over promoting the empowerment of women in Hong Kong and the advancement and development of women in society. Over the years, Ms. Ho has served the Hong Kong Federation of Women with enthusiasm, particularly in organising various activities and services as well as improving and protecting the legal interests of women.
Ms. Chan Oi Ching, SBS, JP, Sponsoring Member of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the SBS in recognition of her dedicated community work and strong commitment in the promotion of the well-being of the local and the clansmen communities. Ms. Chan is a successful entrepreneur in the textile business. Being a member of various government boards and committees, Ms. Chan provides valuable advice on matters relating to textiles and garment industries, as well as combating drugs and juvenile crimes. She has also set up two charity foundations to help the underprivileged. She is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Glorious Holdings Limited.
Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS)
Ms. Eileen Tsui Li, BBS, JP, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee and Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the BBS in recognition of her dedicated community services and contribution to the Kowloon City District, particularly in supporting development of the young generation. She is highly passionate in promoting arts and cultural programmes in the community and contributes to enhancement of city landscape and enrichment of cultural life at district level. She is currently Managing Director of Nankai Transport Int'l (HK) Co., Ltd.
Dr. Liu Hong Fai, BBS, JP, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee and Senior Member of the HKBU Foundation, was awarded the BBS in recognition of his significant contribution to various public and community services in the Southern District. Dr. Liu has been dedicated to enhancing the cohesiveness of clansmen living in Hong Kong as well as facilitating business and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and the Mainland. Dr. Liu is also supportive of charitable initiatives and youth development. Dr. Liu is Founding Honorary Permanent Chairman of The Association of Industries and Commerce of Hong Kong Southern District Limited.
Dr. Tsoi Wing Sing, BBS, Chairman of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs), donor of the University, was awarded BBS in recognition of his significant contribution to charity and community service. During his tenure as Chairman of the TWGHs, he was dedicated to leading TWGHs to continue providing excellent services by upgrading medical and health services, enhancing Chinese medicine service and providing all-round education with emphasis on moral education.
Dr. Kenneth Chu Ting Kin, BBS, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Mission Hills Group, donor of the University, was awarded the BBS in recognition of his dedication to public and community services and fostering social harmony in the community. Dr. Chu has made significant contribution to promotion of youth development and sports. He has also provided valuable advice on the development of elite sports and corporate affairs of the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service
In addition, Ms. Chloe Suen Yin Wah, Co-Chairman of the Young Entrepreneur Committee and Chair of Simon Suen Foundation, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, was commended in recognition of her contribution to the promotion of arts and culture as well as intangible local cultural heritage; while Mr. Kan Yat Chung, Sponsoring Member of the HKBU Foundation, was commended for his outstanding contribution to the fight against COVID-19.
Several more members of the HKBU community were also honoured by the HKSAR Government for their distinguished contributions to the community.
