Honorary Doctorate Distinguished Lecture by Dr. Cheng Yan Kee

At the Honorary Doctorate Distinguished Lecture held on 3 May 2021, Dr. Cheng Yan Kee, BBS, JP, former Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, delivered a lecture entitled “Reflections”. The lecture was conducted in a hybrid mode. A great number of honourable guests including the family and friends of Dr. Cheng, HKBU Foundation members, as well as members of the Council and the Court, attended the lecture in person.

In his lecture, Dr. Cheng shared that we should learn from the current pandemic to better prepare for future crisis, and in particular invest more in science and technology. He believed that HKBU has a role to play in this aspect. Dr. Cheng showcased to the participants the many iconic landmarks and building projects he participated in as a civil and structural engineer. He also shared his experience in public service, and expressed that it was his great pleasure to contribute to Hong Kong’s development with his professional knowledge.

Dr. Cheng has served HKBU for 20 years. His talents were brought to bear on a rich vein of the University’s growth. He is also Sponsoring Member of the HKBU Foundation. In recognition of Dr. Cheng's outstanding contributions to higher education and society, the University conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa, in 2019.
