Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen makes a gift of HK$3 million to HKBU’s Project SEED
Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen, Chairman of Dongguan Xingye Trade Development Company Limited and Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, recently made a generous donation of HK$3 million to the University designated for the establishment of the “Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen Emergency Financial Relief Fund” under Project SEED, with the aim of supporting financially needy local undergraduate students in pursuing their studies at HKBU.
Mr. Cheng has been a dedicated supporter of HKBU. Over the years, he has made several donations in support of our University’s strategic development and various endeavours, including the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology, the establishment of the “Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen Local Students Bursary” and the “Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen Scholarship”. He was awarded Honorary University Fellow by the University in 2019 in recognition of his tremendous contributions to education and the well-being of society.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to the global economy. Foreseeing the challenges that graduating students will encounter during the current economic downturn, HKBU rolled out Project SEED in April 2020. The Project aims to enhance students’ competencies by collaborating with the HKBU community to provide various career, mentorship and internship opportunities. The HKBU SEED Fund has also been established under Project SEED to provide emergency relief for students with financial difficulties and to support the University to launch worthy student projects.
