HKBU commends four outstanding athletes

HKBU’s Faculty of Social Sciences held the “Homecoming Gathering for HKBU Athletes in Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games-cum-Social Sciences in Dialogue” on 18 October 2021. At the event, Dr. Clement Chen, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court, and Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, presented the “HKBU Olympian and Paralympian Appreciation Award” to four HKBU athletes including Sarah Lee Wai Sze, Daniel Chan Ho Yuen, Chan Chung Wang and Ho Yuen Kei. Each of them received a cash prize of HK$150,000 in recognition of their exemplary performances at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Award was supported by the bequest made by the late Dr. the Hon. Arnaldo de Oliverira Sales, GBM, OBE, JP, GCIH, in 2021.
At the sharing session moderated by Professor Chung Pak Kwong, Associate Dean (Development) of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Acting Director of Student Affairs, the four athletes shared with hundreds of fellow students their path to success and discussed the development of sport in Hong Kong.
Sarah Lee, a bronze medalist in the Women’s Sprint at the Olympic Games, and Daniel Chan, a bronze medalist in the Badminton Men’s Singles WH2 event at the Paralympic Games, are students of the Bachelor of Arts in Creative and Professional Writing programme and the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management programme, respectively.
Chan Chung Wang, a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management programme, competed in the Men’s 110m Hurdles at the Olympic Games, whereas Ho Yuen Kei, an alumna of the Bachelor of Social Sciences in China Studies programme, participated in the boccia competitions at the Paralympic Games.
