The University recently received a generous donation of around HK$830,000 from the late Mr. Chan Chee Kheong to support the development of the Academy of Film. It is the second bequest from Mr. Chan to HKBU in two years and the total donation now amounts to HK$1.9 million. The fund will be designated for the Mr. Chan Chee Kheong Memorial Scholarship, which will recognise students who have outstanding academic performance in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting for Global Screen programme.

Mr. Chan was a renowned Malaysian-born Hong Kong film producer and talent manager. Between the 1980s and 1990s, he helped a number of celebrities to establish their careers with his extensive network and was praised as star-maker. He also served as Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild. In 2011, Mr. Chan received the Professional Achievement Award at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the Hong Kong film industry.

The Academy of Film strives to groom rising stars with a global perspective for the industry. The University expressed our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Chan for his ardent support and trust to the Academy.
