The HKBU Foundation records with deepest sorrow the passing of Dr. Kenneth Fang Hung, GBS, JP, Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation, Chairman of Fang Brothers Knitting Limited, on 28 August 2022.

Succeeding in his father’s business, Dr. Fang was recognised as the “King of Textile” and had established a strong presence and a prominent reputation in the textile industry. He was a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and held key positions in various industrial or commercial associations, including Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, Honorary Chairman of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Textiles, and Chairman of the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel, contributing significantly to the development of the textiles and clothing industry.

As a highly-respected leader in the community, Dr. Fang demonstrated genuine concern for society and paid particular attention to educational development across Hong Kong and Mainland China for decades, sponsoring a wide array of meaningful initiatives including the HKBU Development Fund and the Ng Ching Fai and Angeline Ng Scholarship in support of student development at HKBU. He also supported the publication of the “Hong Kong History Project”.

The Foundation conveys its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Fang’s family at this time of bereavement. He will always be remembered for his zealous support for the University’s development.
