Ma Pak Leung Company Limited (Ma Pak Leung) hosted its “Ma Pak Leung 200th Anniversary Celebration Dinner” on 11 November 2022, which was officiated by the Mavichien’s family members and other honourable guests. A number of HKBU representatives attended this joyous occasion and extended their warmest congratulations to Ma Pak Leung on its bi-centennial celebration. They included Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Zhu Furong, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Ken Yung, Ma Pak Leung Endowed Professor in Innovative Neuromedicine and Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate School; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Dr. Sze Cho Wing, Assistant Director of the Golden Meditech Centre for NeuroRegeneration Sciences and Assistant Professor of the Department of Biology; and Dr. Cathy Lui Nga Ping, Senior Research Associate of the Department of Biology.

Ma Pak Leung was founded in 1822, with its first shop located at Foshan City of Guangdong Province, specialised in the development of drugs and pills according to ancient formula that were affordable by general public. Despite the changes in Hong Kong over the past 200 years, Ma Pak Leung has its base in Hong Kong and remains committed to safeguarding public health. At the dinner, Ma Pak Leung also showcased its initiatives in collaboration with HKBU, including a research and development project launched by the Innovation and Technology Commission, and the establishment of the first-ever innovative neuromedicine endowed professorship at HKBU in advancing the frontiers of research and applications in neuromedicine with innovative concepts and technologies.
