Scholarships at HKBU: Nurturing future leaders
With the tremendous support of numerous donors, HKBU has offered a wide range of scholarships to our students. In the academic year 2021-2022, around 1,600 scholarships and over 200 bursaries, with a total value of more than HK$47 million, were awarded to HKBU students through donations. Scholarships, without a doubt, help ease the financial burden on students, but the actual benefits of scholarships span far longer — in fact, they may last a lifetime.
Apart from giving recognition to students with outstanding academic performances, these scholarships also encourage them to keep up their pursuit of academic excellence and personal development and give back to society by utilising their knowledge. Rex Cheuk Ka Ho, a recipient of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships; Chester Chan Chin Ching, a recipient of Padma & Hari Harilela Scholarship Fund for Outstanding Students; and Leung Man Man, a recipient of Mr. & Mrs. Sydney S.O. Au Memorial Scholarship, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the donors for their generosity and aspirations in nurturing future leaders for the betterment of society.
“The Scholarship is more than financial support to me, it grants me a chance to broaden my horizons as I am planning an overseas exchange. Most importantly, the Scholarship provides me with precious opportunities to meet different scholars who are passionate about different social issues, such as inter-generational poverty and racial equality. It is my deep pleasure to work with a group of caring leaders and build up a better Hong Kong, a better world.”

“I am sincerely honoured to be selected as the recipient of the Padma & Hari Harilela Scholarship Fund for Outstanding Students. It is a magnificent recognition for my efforts in studying, serving, and gaining international exposure in the past two years. It also motivates me to further embrace new challenges in terms of participating in more extra-curricular activities as well as maintaining my GPA. Hopefully, one day, I could be a successful doctor helping the needy and giving back everything to the community just as the donors have helped me.”
