The Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Foundation held a Thanksgiving Reception on 24 February 2023 to express its deepest gratitude to members of the Foundation and its Board of Governors, as well as friends and supporters of the University for their staunch support. The event also celebrated the Foundation’s 14th anniversary.

In his welcoming address, Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, shared the University’s remarkable achievements over the past year, including the contribution made by its medical expertise during the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, its remarkable accomplishments in art-tech, and the establishment of the School of Creative Arts. He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the members of the Board of Governors, Entrepreneur Committee, Young Entrepreneur Committee and Alumni Committee of the Foundation, as well as all supporters, for their tremendous contributions to the University’s development over the years.

Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Foundation, said that the Foundation has grown substantially since its inauguration in 2009. The University has successfully secured more than HK$3.01 billion under the Eighth Matching Grant Scheme and the Research Matching Grant Scheme. As a result, it has far exceeded the University’s annual target, and the achievement underscores the Foundation’s remarkable fundraising results over the past three consecutive years. In addition, the number of Foundation members has increased from 131 to 888 since its inception. He thanked all friends and supporters for their staunch support of the development of HKBU, and hoped that more friends and organisations will join hands with the Foundation in the future.

Dr. Clement Chen, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court, Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, and Professor Alexander Wai, took photos with the new Honorary President, Honorary Vice-Presidents, Honorary Directors and Directors of the Foundation to thank them for their generosity, and they also presented them with certificates from the Foundation to express the University’s gratefulness. Other guests who attended the event in person included Ir Professor Paul Poon, Deputy Chairman, and Ms. Rosanna Choi, Treasurer of the Council and the Court; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP, Co-Chairman of the Young Entrepreneur Committee; Professor Sunny Wong, Chairman of the Alumni Committee; Professor William Leung, GBS, JP, member of the Board of Governors of the Foundation; as well as Vice-Presidents, Associate Vice-Presidents, Deans and Heads of HKBU.
