31 May 2023

The School of Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University announces the selection results of the 2nd Professional Journalism Fellowship (PJF@HKBU) scheme. Four veteran media professionals from three media outlets in Hong Kong were selected as this year’s fellows. Under the scheme, the four selected fellows will study as full-time students for one semester in the academic year 2023-24, and they can attend courses at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.

The four newly selected fellows are Mr. Wu Jiangchuan, BBC News Chinese Senior Broadcast Journalist and Editor; Mr. Arthur Hung Kam Fat, Managing Editor (International News) of Ming Pao; Mr. Alec Chan Tze Ling, Greater Bay Area Desk Bureau Correspondent of Ming Pao; and Mr. Victor Lee Wai Tat, Assistant Managing Editor of TVB News & Information Services Division. They all appreciate the precious opportunity to return to the campus and pursue their studies again, and look forward to dedicating themselves fully to the learning and exchange activities. Through enhancing their professional knowledge and skills, they hope to contribute to their respective news organisations, but also the entire journalism industry in Hong Kong. Supported by the Dorothy Shen Wong Memorial Fund, which was set up by Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation and veteran journalist Professor Raymond R. Wong, SBS, PJF@HKBU is the first-of-its-kind in Hong Kong that aims to raise the standards of journalism by allowing practicing journalists to take a break from work to enrich their knowledge through studying at HKBU. Professor Wong said, "The news industries in Hong Kong and beyond are facing significant changes and challenges brought about by new technologies such as artificial intelligence. Therefore, I hope these fellows can utilise the time on campus for reflection and preparation, and equip themselves to face future challenges."

"We are delighted to welcome another batch of senior journalists on campus. We look forward to their sharing of frontline work experiences with our faculty members and journalism students, inspiring the younger generation to join the media industry," said Professor Raymond Li, Chair of the PJF@HKBU selection committee, Professor of Practice and Head of Department of Journalism at HKBU.
