Australian computer graphics artist and musician Mr. Andrew Quinn presented a unique perspective of heaven through his creation of real-time visuals for the orchestral performance of Mahler’s Ruhevoll from his Symphony no. 4

The Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra presented its Annual Gala Concert in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 15 June 2023.

Blending art and innovation with artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies, this year’s Concert showcased the artistic prowess of HKBU’s student musicians and the University’s dedication to inspiring creativity and fostering artistic excellence. The performance was conducted by Professor Johnny M. Poon, Dean of HKBU’s School of Creative Arts, Music Director and Conductor of the HKBU Symphony Orchestra and the Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, crossed-over multiple genres with acclaimed guest musicians including Mr. Chiyan Wong, Mr. Andrew Quinn, as well as the HKBU Symphony Orchestra comprising students from the HKBU Academy of Music.

The Concert received an overwhelming response with nearly 1,000 attending HKBU representatives, dignitaries and guests, including Dr. Clement Chen, GBS, JP, and Ir Professor Paul Poon, Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively of the Council and the Court; Professor Alexander Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Rick Wong, Interim Provost, Acting Vice-President (Research and Development) and Acting Dean of Graduate School; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts; Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary and Professor William Cheung, Associate Vice-President (Undergraduate Programmes).

A number of Foundation members and guests also joined this special occasion. They included Mr. Raymond Kwok; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP; Dr. Vincent Ho; Mr. Philip Kan, MH; Mr. Alex Leung; Mr. Tyrone Siu; Ms. Cecilia Ho; Ms. Belinda Hung; Mr. Tin Hing Sin; Mr. Tin Wing Sin; Mr. Steve Chan Chi Fat; Mr. Vincent Chow; Ms. Kwan Kim Ling; Mrs. Shum Lam Kam Chu; Ir Roger Lam Man Pang; Mr. Louis Leung; Mr. Tong Ka Ming; Mr. Tim Shen; Ir Dr. Alex Tsang; Ms. Agnes Wong; Dr. Pato Wong; and Mr. Wong Wai Hung, MH, JP.
