HKBU receives another donation from Professor Joseph Ting for scholarship
The University received a further donation of HK$150,000 from Professor Joseph Ting Sun Pao, BBS for the existing “Ding Richang Scholarship” to reward outstanding undergraduate students in the Department of History. With this donation doubling the aggregative donation amount of the Scholarship to HK$300,000, a grant of around HK$6,000 each will be awarded to two students annually.
Professor Ting presented the donation cheque to Professor Clara Ho Wing Chung, Head of the Department of History, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, on 29 August 2023. Also attending the event were Professor Timothy Wong Man Kong, Associate Dean (Development) of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and three Professors Emeritus of the Department of History, namely Professor Chow Kai Wing, Professor Lam Kai Yin and Professor Lee Kam Keung.
Professor Ting is a renowned expert of Chinese and Hong Kong history, and a staunch supporter of the University over the years. In 2014, he supported the establishment of the Ding Richang Scholarship to honour the eminent historical figure Ding Richang (1823-1882), who was a major leader in the Self-Strengthening Movement of Late Qing China.
