Professor Raymond R. Wong and Professional Journalism Fellows share insights at seminar

Professor Raymond R. Wong, SBS, veteran journalist, popularly known as Hong Kong’s godfather of journalism, and Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation; and this year’s HKBU Professional Journalism Fellows including Mr. Arthur Hung Kam Fat, Managing Editor (International News) of Ming Pao; Mr. Victor Lee Wai Tai, Assistant Managing Editor of the TVB News and Information Services Division; and Mr. Wu Jiangchuan, BBC News Chinese Senior Broadcast Journalist and Editor, were invited to share their insights at a seminar entitled “What Journalism Needs to do to Meet the Challenge of an AI future amidst the Rapid Changing Political and Economic Environment?” on 16 October 2023.  

Organised by the School of Communication, the seminar focused on the impact and challenges of artificial intelligence faced by the journalism industry. At the seminar, Professor Wong shared that artificial intelligence is only a tool and it cannot think independently. He emphasised that journalists still have their own values for society. This inspiring seminar attracted a number of students and faculty members including Professor Raymond Li, Head of the Department of Journalism; Professor Chan King Cheung, BBS, Raymond. R. Wong Endowed Professor in Media Ethics.
