Fanling Golf Course conferred with UNESCO Asia Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation

The Fanling Golf Course, which is operated by the University donor Hong Kong Golf Club (the Club), has recently been recognised with the Award of Distinction in the 2023 UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards for Cultural Conservation.

With over a hundred years of history, and being the oldest championship golf course in Greater China, it is one of only two sporting venues that have been recognised in the history of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. The other being Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.

Comprising golf courses and a heritage cluster of historical buildings, the Golf Course is also home to a number of rare and protected trees, in addition to other ecologically precious floral and faunal species. The award acknowledges the Club’s efforts and achievements in conserving the heritage value of the Golf Course, which is located in an increasingly urbanised surroundings and subject to substantial developmental pressures.
