With the generous support of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation (Foundation), Honorary Trustee of the HKBU Foundation, the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning (CISL) and the General Education Office at HKBU co-organised “The Path to Benevolence: Tin Ka Ping Foundation Service-Learning Showcase” from 1 to 6 February 2024. The exhibition presented the students’ learning journey through service-learning, where they explored the intersections of Chinese traditions with modern complexities, spanning traditional Chinese medicine, well-being and technological innovations, arts and culture, and sustainable communities.

In attendance at the opening ceremony were Dr. Yuen Pong Yiu, Member of Board of Directors of the Foundation; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts; Dr. Lisa Lam, Director of CISL; Professor Chiu Sung Nok, Director of General Education; Professor Stuart Christie, Executive Associate Dean of Arts; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.

On the occasion, Dr. Albert Chau gave a speech to express his gratitude for the Foundation’s generosity, which enabled the University to implement impactful service-learning initiatives and social innovation programmes. During the sharing session, Mr. Cheung Chun Hoi, Deputy Hospital Chief Executive (Chinese Medicine) of the Chinese Medicine Hospital, Dr. Siu Yan Ho from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, together with students presented their stories and experiences in service-learning.

Since 2020, the Tin Ka Ping Foundation Service-Learning Programme has served to support the design and implementation of credit-bearing service-learning courses, in which students are engaged to apply their knowledge and skills while serving the community, cultivating in them a sense of social responsibility and mission.
