HKBU receives donation from Win Chuen Charitable Fund to establish scholarship and launch sport and mental wellness programme

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has received a generous donation of HK$500,000 from the Win Chuen Charitable Fund of Win Win Eternal Stream. Out of this donation, HK$300,000 has been designated for the establishment of the “Win Chuen Charitable Fund First-Generation University Student Scholarship”, while HK$200,000 will support the karate and mental wellness programme “Win Chuen's Journey of Love and Soul - Exploring Karate and Mental Health Training” launched by the social enterprise “Sportcanheal852”, which was founded by Aron Cheung Chun Hei, student of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Physical Education and Recreation Management programme and former member of the Karate Team of Hong Kong, China.

An agreement signing ceremony cum cheque presentation ceremony was held on 1 March 2024. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr. Amen Ng, CEO of the Win Chuen Charitable Fund; Ms. Anna Lam and Mr. Gilbert Lam, Directors of the Win Chuen Charitable Fund; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Acting Dean of Arts of HKBU; and Professor Henry Fock, Director of Student Affairs.

Other guests attending the ceremony included Mr. Ricky Wan, Secretary of the Win Chuen Charitable Fund as well as HKBU representatives Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, and Aron Cheung.

Dr. Albert Chau conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Fund for their continued substantial support, following their establishment of the “Win Chuen Charitable Fund Bursary” last year. The scholarship is set to benefit 20 students during the 2024-25 academic year. Sportcanheal852 aims to forge a connection between karate and mental health, while “Win Chuen's Journey of Love and Soul -  Exploring Karate and Mental Health Training” programme provides basic karate training to underprivileged groups and encourage them to explore and foster mental health.
