Mrs. Kimbee Lau shares philanthropy stories
Mrs. Kimbee Lau Chan Hoi Wan, Trustee of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust (Charitable Trust), which is a donor of the University, and Chief Executive Officer of Chinese Estates Holdings Limited, was invited by the College of International Education (CIE) of Hong Kong Baptist University to deliver a lecture entitled “Small Deeds, Big Differences” on 19 April 2024.
In her lecture, Mrs. Lau shared inspiring stories of how charity has made a positive impact on people’s lives, citing a variety of projects supported by the Charitable Trust. They included a hostel in Sham Shui Po called the "Joseph’s House", which offers affordable living space for young people and engages them in programmes for personal and professional development. Another project launched by the Charitable Trust, "Josephine’s Kitchen", helps people with autism to acquire skills and gain work experience by employing them to deliver food to grassroot citizens in the community.
As a philanthropist who walks the talk, Mrs. Lau never hesitates to travel great distances in order to meet the recipients of the Trust's benefactions. Mrs. Lau reflected on a trip to Sichuan she took with her daughter last year. "We called the trip a 'love journey'. Upon our arrival, although we had never visited the place before, we were greeted with enthusiastic hugs by local children and I was deeply moved by their sincerity. A small act of kindness can be a very rewarding experience, as it inspires everyone to take a small step in making a positive impact on the lives of others. In return, such an act brings love and happiness."
Hosted by the CIE’s Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) degree programme in Integrated Communication Management, the lecture series features outstanding figures from society regularly as speakers to share their paths to success and valuable experiences.
