In Memoriam: Dr. Chiu Hin Kwong, OBE, JP

The HKBU Foundation records with deepest sorrow the passing of Dr. Chiu Hin Kwong, OBE, JP, donor of the University, on 30 June 2024 at the age of 96.

Dr. Chiu was a kind-hearted, benevolent doctor with a passionate commitment to serving people, especially those in the grassroots community. Over his more than 50-year medical career, he had relentlessly travelled far and wide to provide medical care and treatment to squatters and fishermen, earning the love and respect of the public. Dr. Chiu was also actively involved in social affairs. In his capacities as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Baptist Hospital and a member of the Executive Council and Legislative Council of Hong Kong, he devoted himself to promoting the development of medical, health and public services in the city, leaving behind a remarkable legacy.

A dedicated advocate for the local higher education sector, Dr. Chiu had held key positions at a number of higher education institutions, including as a member of the Board of Governors of Hong Kong Baptist College and a Council and Court member of HKBU. In his early years, he generously donated to support the development of various areas at the University, benefitting numerous students.

The Foundation conveys its heartfelt condolences to Dr. Chiu’s family at this time of bereavement. He will always be remembered for his valuable contributions to the University and society.
