Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute hosts Young Scholars Conference
Organised by the HKBU Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute (SHI), the “9th Young Scholars International Conference” was held on campus on 9 and 10 August 2024. The theme of this year’s conference was "Different eras can resonate together: The inheritance and innovation of the research of classical Chinese literature". Over 20 outstanding young scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, the United States, and South Korea gathered to delve into the theme and exchange ideas.
On the first day of the conference, Mrs. Mary Suen, MH, Director of the SML Group and Honorary Director of SHI, and Dr. Chloe Suen, Chair of the Simon Suen Foundation, together with Professor Zhang Hongsheng, Director of SHI, officiated the opening ceremony. Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, was also invited to attend the event.
Established in 2011 with a generous donation from the Simon Suen Foundation, SHI is committed to promoting the study of Chinese humanities, and providing a broad and open platform for young scholars’ intellectual exchange. To further enhance interactions among young scholars from diverse academic backgrounds, SHI has been organising the Young Scholars Conference annually since 2015. These conferences have attracted more than 100 young scholars from home and abroad, receiving widespread attention and acclaim from the academia.
