Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) recently received another generous donation of HK$3 million from Tin Ka Ping Foundation (the Foundation), designated for the continuation and expansion of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation Service-Learning Programme (the Programme) for three more years starting from the academic year 2025-26.

Since 2020, the Programme has supported the design and implementation of credit-bearing service-learning courses, in which students are engaged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom to serve the community according to its genuine needs. As of early 2024, a total of 85 service-learning courses had been offered, with nearly 3,200 student enrolments and serving over 25,600 people in need. This far exceeded the original targets, showcasing the Programme’s remarkable outcomes.

In the next phase, the Programme will continue to build upon the shared dedication of the Foundation and HKBU towards promoting moral education, cultural heritage and educational literacy in the Greater China area. It will actively explore collaboration opportunities with community partners and other higher education institutions to provide more enriching service-learning experiences. The aim is to enable local and Mainland students to practise social responsibility through their learning, while gaining a deeper understanding of the Nation’s cultural values, developing advanced critical thinking skills, and ultimately emerging as globally-minded citizens of China.
