Sun Museum unveils new site
To facilitate long-term growth, the Sun Museum, founded by the Simon Suen Foundation, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, has officially relocated to Sai Ying Pun, marking an exciting new chapter in its development.
The opening ceremony for the Sun Museum’s new site and the inaugural exhibition “Hong Kong Paintings in Sai Yuen Lane” was held on 2 October 2024. Officiating at the ceremony were The Hon. Kevin Yeung Yun Hung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Lin Zhan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Publicity, Cultural and Sports Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Kenneth Fok Kai Kong, JP, Court Member of HKBU and member of the Legislative Council of the HKSAR; Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation; Professor the Hon. Lee Chack Fan, GBM, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Management Board of The Jao Studies Foundation; Dr. Simon Suen, BBS, JP and Dr. Chloe Suen, Founding Chairman and Chair respectively of the Simon Suen Foundation; and Dr. Lesley Lau Fung Ha, Director of the Sun Museum.
Since its inception in 2015, the Sun Museum has been dedicated to promoting Chinese culture and art, with a strong focus on introducing the achievements of Hong Kong artists through thematic exhibitions, lectures, research and publications. The new location spans two floors and covers around 6,000 square feet, featuring exhibition galleries, a library, a café, and a gift shop. Its convenient location near the Sai Ying Pun MTR station makes it easily accessible for art enthusiasts.
A number of HKBU Foundation members also joined this special occasion. They included Mrs. Mary Suen, MH; Ms. Angeline Yiu; Dr. Tang Wai Hung; Ms. Michelle Cheong; Mrs. Susan So, SBS; Dr. Elizabeth Law, BBS, MH; Mrs. Virginia Yim, MH; Ms. Portia Chow; Ms. Carmen Yim; Ms. Linda So; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP; and Mr. James Li. Professor Chen Zhi, President of Beijing Normal University–Hong Kong Baptist University United International College and Director of the HKBU Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, attended the ceremony on behalf of the University.
