HKBU Foundation hosts annual dinner to celebrate its 15th Anniversary and thank supporters

The HKBU Foundation (the Foundation) hosted its annual dinner on 25 October 2024 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its founding and to express gratitude to the members of the Foundation’s Board of Governors and committees, as well as the supporters of the University, for their generosity and staunch support over the years.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Foundation, highlighted the University’s advancements in various fields fostered by the Foundation over the past year. These included the establishment of the Life Science Imaging Centre, the Vincent V.C. Woo Chinese Medicine Clinical Research Institute and the Wu Jieh Yee Institute of Translational Chinese Medicine Research. He said that the Foundation will continue to leverage its valuable resources to support major University initiatives in the coming year, such as the development of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity and the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong.
Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, shared the University’s latest achievements, including the remarkable performances of students and alumni athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the opening of the HKBU Art Tech Incubation Hub – CHRYSALIS, the University’s significant leaps in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 and the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2025, as well as the recognition of HKBU teachers in all three award categories of the 2024 University Grants Committee Teaching Award.
Professor Wai thanked members of the Board of Governors and various committees of the Foundation for their dedicated contributions, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the guests and all supporters in the community.

Wilfred Wong, GBM, GBS, JP, Chairman Emeritus, and Professor Justin Chiu, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Foundation; Dr. Stanley Yim, SBS, BBS, JP, Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP, Co-Chairman of the Young Entrepreneur Committee; Professor Sunny Wong, Chairman of the Alumni Committee; Professor Ng Ching Fai, GBS, President Emeritus; Professor Martin Wong, Provost; Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School and Acting Dean of Chinese Medicine; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer; Professor William Cheung, Associate Vice-President (Transdisciplinary Education); Professor Johnny Poon, Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research) and Founding Dean of Creative Arts; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the Foundation.
Since its inception in 2009, the HKBU Foundation has grown its membership from 131 to 948, and the total cumulative amount of donations and pledges has exceeded HK$5.2 billion. The funds secured by the Foundation contribute to five major areas, including promoting the University’s strategic development, creating innovations, fostering superb research, enriching student experience, and caring for the community.
As part of the celebration, two newspaper supplements were published to showcase the work and important milestones achieved by the Foundation.
