HKBUCM launches The Jockey Club TCM-driven Mental Wellness Hub Project to boost mental health with Chinese medicine
Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, HKBU School of Chinese Medicine Clinical Division has launched the “Jockey Club Traditional Chinese Medicine-driven Mental Wellness Hub” (the “Project”), a three-year initiative designed to improve the public’s sleep and emotional well-being through Chinese medicine treatment. Around 5,000 individuals aged between 18 and 65 will be recruited to benefit from six weeks of free consultations and treatments. As determined by the doctors, those requiring further assistance will be referred to social workers from the New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association for follow-up support. Under this medical-social cooperation model, participants can receive more comprehensive care.
Many urbanites, those with a hectic lifestyle and heavy work pressure, are increasingly prone to emotional distress. Surveys show that one in seven people in Hong Kong experiences mental health issues of varying degrees, with insomnia, depression, and anxiety being particularly prevalent. To address this challenge, the Project provides a comprehensive range of services, including mental health assessments, consultations with Chinese medicine experts, treatments, and educational activities, all designed to help participants restore the proper balance between their body and mind, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
