Delegation of HKBU Foundation and University members visits BNU-HKBU UIC

A 40-member delegation, comprising members of the Board of Governors, the Entrepreneur Committee, the Young Entrepreneur Committee and the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation (the Foundation), as well as members from HKBU’s Council and Court and the senior management team, paid a visit to the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (BNU-HKBU UIC) on 15 November 2024. The purpose of the visit was to enhance their understanding of the latest developments at the Zhuhai campus, particularly regarding the “One University, Two Campuses” strategy. 

The delegation included Mr. Kevin Liem, Treasurer of the Council and the Court, and the Board of Governors of the Foundation; Ms. Connie Wong, GBS, JP and Dr. Stanley Yim, SBS, BBS, JP, Co-Chairmen of the Entrepreneur Committee; Dr. Chloe Suen and Mr. Ivan Wong, JP, Co-Chairmen of the Young Entrepreneur Committee; and Dr. Liu Chak Wan, GLM and Mrs. Mary Suen, MH, members of the Board of Governors. Among the senior management in attendance were Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); and Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary, Professor Rick Wong, Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor and Executive Strategic Officer of BNU-HKBU UIC, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the Foundation. 

Professor Chen Zhi, President of BNU-HKBU UIC, provided an overview of the development history and recent achievements of the Zhuhai campus. He looks forward to implementing more collaborative projects with the Hong Kong campus in the future. Recently, the University and BNU-HKBU UIC have deepened their technology collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province by establishing a joint seed fund pool to conduct in-depth science and technology research projects.  

Professor Alex Wai pointed out that, through the Extended Study Programme in the Greater Bay Area, students from HKBU and BNU-HKBU UIC can attend classes on both campuses, participate in various experiential learning activities, and join internship programmes at leading corporations. It not only enhances students’ competitiveness, but also their understanding of the development and opportunities in the Greater Bay Area. As the Foundation celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, Professor Wai thanked its members for their staunch support of the Programme, which has enabled students from both campuses to enjoy novel experiences. 

The delegation toured both the first- and second-phase campuses at BNU-HKBU UIC, exploring key facilities such as the Learning Resource Centre, Sports Complex, Math Zone and Student Residential Halls. They also engaged in cultural activities such as Chinese archery and yayue (Chinese court music) and shared insightful advice with students on their studies, internship opportunities and career planning.
