Dr. Daniel Tse celebrates 90th birthday with generous donation to HKBU

Dr. Daniel Tse and Mrs. Kitty Tse remain committed to the development of HKBU

To celebrate the 90th birthday of Dr. Daniel Tse, GBS, CBE, OBE, JP, President Emeritus and donor of the University, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Alumni Association hosted a birthday dinner in his honour on 7 November 2024 at Maxim’s Palace in Central. More than 450 members of the University, including alumni and friends from diverse sectors, attended this joyous occasion.

During the dinner, Dr. Tse appealed to guests to provide continued support in advancing HKBU’s development. He and Mrs. Kitty Tse set an inspiring example by donating HK$90,000, a sum that symbolically mirrors Dr. Tse’s age. Dr. Tse encouraged alumni to follow suit in support of their alma mater by contributing each year an amount that corresponds with their age.

The responses from the University’s supporters have been overwhelming. Together with Dr. Tse’s contribution, a total of more than HK$1.38 million has been raised as of 15 December, including HK$600,000 from Dr. Simon Suen, BBS, JP, Founder of the SML Group; HK$521,000 from the HKBU Alumni Association of Macau; and HK$100,000 from HKBU Century Club. In addition, members of the HKBU Foundation, such as Dr. the Hon. Moses Cheng, GBM, GBS, OBE, JP, Dr. Chui Shiu Hon, Dr. Hung Yeung Pong Wah and her family, and Dr. Ronald Lu, have also made generous donations to enhance this goodwill.

The funds raised will be designated for the establishment of the “Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Tse Scholarship”. Starting from the academic year 2024-2025, the Scholarship will provide financial assistance to full-time local undergraduates who excel academically and have financial needs.
