Great success for Win Chuen’s Journey of Love and Soul - Exploring Karate and Mental Health Training
Supported by the Win Chuen Charitable Fund (the Fund), Sportcanheal852, a student-led social enterprise established through Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), launched the “Win Chuen’s Journey of Love and Soul - Exploring Karate and Mental Health Training” programme in 2024. This programme offered basic karate training to the elderly, children from low-income families, and ethnic minority teenagers, enabling them to relieve stress, build resilience, and boost their mental well-being through sport.
Since August 2024, Mr. Aron Cheung Chun Hei (Year 4, Physical Education and Recreation Management), Founder of Sportcanheal852 and a former member of the Karate Team of Hong Kong, China, has led his team in delivering 16 mindfulness karate sessions, collectively contributing 6,624 service hours and benefitting 92 underprivileged individuals.
To share the programme’s success, a graduation ceremony was held at HKBU on 17 November 2024. The event attracted over 100 guests, including Dr. Amen Ng, Honorary Chief Executive Officer of the Fund; Ms. Anna Lam and Mr. Gilbert Lam, Directors of the Fund; Dr. Lisa Lam, Director of the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning at HKBU; and Dr. Duan Yanping, Associate Professor of the Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health at HKBU.
