HKBU Professional Journalism Fellowship Media Lunch
Established with the generous donation of veteran journalist Professor Raymond R. Wong, SBS, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, the HKBU Professional Journalism Fellowship (PJF@HKBU) Scheme has successfully completed three cohorts since its launch in 2022. Applications for the new cohort are expected to open soon.
To provide the latest updates on the Scheme, the School of Communication and the Department of Journalism at HKBU hosted a media luncheon on 20 December 2024. Heads and representatives from 13 local media organisations attended the event, engaging in dynamic conversations with Professor Wong and representatives from the Department of Journalism, including Professor Raymond Li, Head and Professor of Practice; Professor Chan King Cheung, BBS, Raymond R. Wong Endowed Professor in Media Ethics and Professor of Practice; and Dr. Brian So, Associate Professor of Practice.
Two fellows from the third cohort of PJF@HKBU, Mr. Francis Ng, Head of Homepage, News and Media Development at Yahoo Hong Kong, and Mr. Jeff Cheng, Photojournalist at HK01 and Chairman of the Hong Kong Press Photographers Association, shared their experiences and gains from their sabbatical studies at HKBU. Also present at the luncheon to express their gratitude to Professor Wong were Ms. Denise Tsang, Hong Kong News Editor at the South China Morning Post, from the first cohort; as well as Mr. Alec Chan, Greater Bay Area Desk Bureau Correspondent at Ming Pao, and Mr. Victor Lee, Assistant Managing Editor of the TVB News and Information Services Division, both from the second cohort.
PJF@HKBU is one of the strategic initiatives launched under the Dorothy Shen Wong Memorial Fund, which was set up in 2020 with a HK$50 million donation from Professor Raymond R. Wong. Selected fellows can attend any undergraduate or postgraduate courses as auditors.
