The Jockey Club CLAP-TECH drone light show bootcamp
Spearheaded by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Jockey Club Multiple Pathways Initiative – CLAP-TECH Pathway (CLAP-TECH) recently held a three-day Drone Light Show Bootcamp for secondary school students enrolled in its “Multimedia Storytelling” Applied Learning Course. Technical support for the drones was provided by a team led by Mr. Samuel Lam, member of the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation, who also attended the bootcamp to offer support and encouragement to the students.
Through a series of workshops, the bootcamp delivered essential knowledge on drone performance, covering theoretical principles, indoor applications and the fundamentals of designing outdoor light shows. It culminated in a mini drone light show for the students, their parents and teachers. 300 drones lit up the night sky over the Kwun Tong waterfront, displaying student-designed festive patterns. CLAP-TECH is a tripartite partnership between HKBU, industry partners and local secondary schools. By providing hands-on and experiential learning activities outside the classroom, this non-traditional education journey aims to nurture students’ creativity and equip them with the soft and hard skills required for the future workforce.
