Heartfelt thanks to our generous sponsors

The Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Marathon team, comprising over 600 staff members, students, alumni and friends, participated in various races of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on 9 February 2025, showcasing the solidarity of the HKBU community. On this occasion, the University conducted a sports science project aimed at safeguarding runners’ health through real-time monitoring of their physical conditions.

A number of HKBU representatives attended the Marathon to show their support for HKBU runners. They included Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, and Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor.

The Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health at HKBU leveraged this event to undertake a project titled “Real-time Human Data Metrics Improving Performance and Safety of Athletes”, which employs cutting-edge technology to explore an innovative approach for providing scientific training guidance to HKBU athletes. Professor Alex Wai, who was among this year’s runners, took part in the project and underwent real-time monitoring. This initiative not only opens new avenues for preventing and mitigating exertional heat illness, but also ensures that athletes can compete under optimal conditions to achieve the best results.

A booth was also set up at the Causeway Bay Sports Ground, where Chinese medicine practitioners and students from the School of Chinese Medicine were stationed to provide advice on recovery after strenuous exercise and closely monitor the well-being of HKBU runners.

After the run, the University presented specially curated souvenir packs to participants, each filled with an impressive mix of products or coupons for healthcare, sports therapy, fitness, body care, daily necessities, drinks and health food.
