Over 250 Chinese medicine leaders gather at HKBU to celebrate Chinese New Year

The officiating guests and representatives from HKBU raise a toast to a flourishing future for the Chinese medicine industry  

The School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held a Spring Reception on campus on 16 February 2025, bringing together over 250 guests. Attendees included government officials, management from the Chinese medicine hospital, industry leaders, University management, members of the HKBU Foundation, as well as staff, students and alumni. The event showcased the spirit of unity and collaboration within the Chinese medicine community. 

Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong Ying Ho, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, emphasised the University’s core mission of nurturing talent. He called on Chinese medicine alumni and industry partners to join hands in safeguarding public health and advancing the University’s development. 

Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, shared the latest developments of the University and outlined the vision behind its new medical school proposal, demonstrating HKBU’s commitment to advancing in the field of systems medicine. 

Dr. Vincent Chung Chi Ho, Commissioner for Chinese Medicine Development of the Health Bureau, expressed his pleasure at returning to his alma mater and commended the School’s outstanding contributions. He also mentioned the Government’s forthcoming release of the “Chinese Medicine Development Blueprint” by year-end, stressing the importance of industry consensus and joint efforts to drive progress in Chinese medicine. 

Mr. Huen Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of Directors of HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited, remarked that the highly anticipated Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong will officially commence operations this year. As the first flagship Chinese medicine hospital in the city, it will fully align with government policies to promote the advancement of Chinese medicine and provide high-quality medical services to the public. 

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice President (Research and Development) and Acting Dean of Chinese Medicine, expressed his sincere gratitude to all stakeholders for their unwavering support. He conveyed optimism about the School’s future, stating, “Under the leadership of the new Dean, the School will elevate research translation and talent cultivation to new heights.”
