HKBU International Writers’ Workshop features five renowned writers at 2025 Literary Festival

The International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) concluded its annual Literary Festival with success from 10 to 12 March 2025. Under the theme “Crossroads”, the Festival presented an enriching lineup of activities, including literary readings, writing workshops and a panel discussion, to explore the intersections of culture, creativity and technology in the literary world.
This year’s event featured five internationally acclaimed Writers-in-Residence: Ms. Krystyna Dąbrowska, Polish poet and translator; Mr. Iosi Havilio, Argentine novelist and visual artist; Ms. Insuk Kim, South Korean novelist; Ms. Aube Rey Lescure, American novelist; and Ms. Aigerim Tazhi, Kazakh poet. Each writer, drawing on their unique strengths from diverse fields, offered thought-provoking insights into their creative journeys, discussing how their cultural roots, personal experiences and emerging technologies influence their work. Attendees were captivated by a rich tapestry of poetry, prose and storytelling throughout the Festival. For the biographies of the writers, please click here.
Since its inception in 2004, the IWW has been a significant initiative of the HKBU Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and remains one of the few writers-in-residence programmes in Asia. Supported through donations and Faculty funding, the IWW has hosted over 150 writers from more than 55 countries, engaging them in creativity-inspiring activities with local students, writers and the general public. It serves as an important platform for fostering literary and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and the world.
