HKBU showcases Man Lung Garden penjing collection at Hong Kong Flower Show 2025

Opening ceremony
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) once again showcased its commitment to preserving and promoting the traditional art of penjing (Chinese bonsai) at the annual Hong Kong Flower Show, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The event was held at Victoria Park from 14 to 23 March under the theme “Ablaze with Glory”, featuring Cosmos as the theme flower.
This year, HKBU captivated visitors with eight penjing masterpieces from its Man Lung Garden collection. Among the exquisite displays were “Pinus Thunbergii (Black Pine)”, “Rock growing Fortunella hindsii (Hong Kong Kumquat)” and “Podocarpus macrophyllus (Buddhist Pine)”. For nearly 20 years, the Garden’s penjing exhibits have been a regular feature at the Hong Kong Flower Show, garnering widespread recognition and various accolades.
In 2000, HKBU received a HK$2 million donation from the late Dr. Wu Yee Sun, founder of Wing Lung Bank, who was internationally acclaimed as the “Sage of Penjing” for his mastery of Chinese bonsai. This donation facilitated the inception of the Wu Yee Sun Penjing Foundation Fund, dedicated to promoting penjing as an art form and supporting the establishment of the Man Lung Garden on the Ho Sin Hang Campus. Over the years, the Garden’s penjing collection has been enriched through contributions from generous donors and organisations, including Dr. Wu Yee Sun, Sha Tin Bonsai Association, Hong Kong Bonsai International Society, Mr. Lui Shu Ying, Mr. Zuo Biu and Mr. Fan Sheung Tak.
