HKBU receives further support from Providence Foundation for elderly care programme
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) recently received another generous donation from Providence Foundation Limited (the Foundation) to support the continuation of the Elderly Care Programme, organised by the Leadership Qualities Centre of the Office of Student Affairs. Starting from the academic year 2024-2025, the initiative, now titled the “Providence Foundation Elderly Care Programme - Community Engagement Organisers: Elderly Empowerment Programme”, will engage students in a diverse array of social activities and home improvement projects. The goals are to enhance the lives of seniors, promote positive ageing and foster community inclusion.
The renewed programme builds upon the success of two previous phases of elderly care initiatives, namely the Positive Ageing Learners (PAL) Programme and the Elderly Care Programme, both supported by the Foundation from 2017 to 2024. Over this period, nearly 600 elderly individuals were served through the dedicated efforts of 550 students. The services provided included regular visits to frail elders, support for social activities, home cleaning, and the provision of care packs and home improvement items tailored to the elderly’s individual needs. In 2024, the PAL team was named an “Outstanding Volunteer Team” by the Social Welfare Department.
