HKBU receives HK$10 million donation from KF KK Foundation for Extended Study Programme in Greater Bay Area

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) received a generous donation of HK$10 million from the KF KK Foundation in support of the Extended Study Programme in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Under the “One University, Two Campuses” strategy, the Programme enables students from HKBU and Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) to study at both the Kowloon Tong and Zhuhai campuses, while engaging in internships and experiential learning activities.

In recognition of the Foundation’s generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony was held on 6 May 2025. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr. Choi Yuk Lin, JP, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government; Mr. Ivan Wong, JP, Mr. Rex Wong, JP and Ms. Ann Wong, Executive Chairmen of the KF KK Foundation; Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation; and Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU.

At the ceremony, Dr. Kennedy Wong remarked that Mr. Wong Kam Fai, BBS, MH and Ir Dr. Peter K.K. Wong, GBS, JP, grandfather and father of Mr. Ivan Wong, were distinguished philanthropists who had made significant charitable contributions to the education and social services sectors across the Mainland and Hong Kong. He said, “After founding his own business, Mr. Wong Kam Fai proactively devoted himself to philanthropy, especially focusing on education. He and Dr. Peter K.K. Wong shared the educational philosophy of HKBU. They not only funded the construction of numerous primary and secondary schools on the Mainland, but also made donations to HKBU for establishing a ‘through-train’ school, the HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School, and set up hundreds of scholarship and bursary schemes at HKBU and other education institutions, benefitting countless students.”

In her speech, Dr. Choi said, “The Programme is mutually beneficial to the teaching and learning and research activities of HKBU and BNBU. The HKSAR Government will continue to actively participate in and foster higher education co-operation in the GBA, and support Hong Kong higher education institutions to form multilateral and cross-discipline partnerships in the GBA Mainland cities. By synergising the complementary academic structures and facilities of Hong Kong and Mainland campuses, outstanding talent can be nurtured for the country's development.”

Mr. Ivan Wong said, “The integration of higher education in the GBA is becoming an important trend. By integrating the resources and strengths of Hong Kong and Guangdong, HKBU and BNBU will be able to nurture talents with vision, leadership and the readiness to serve, and foster innovation and collaborations that contribute to Hong Kong, the GBA and the Nation.”

Distinguished guests in attendance included Ir Professor Paul Poon, MH, Deputy Chairman, and Mr. Kevin Liem, Treasurer of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Mr. Regan Ho, Dr. Louis Ng ad Dr. Alex Yu, members of the Council; Professor William Leung, GBS, JP, member of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation; Dr. Chloe Suen, member of the Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of the Young Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Chen Zhi, President of BNBU; Professor Martin Wong, Provost, Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School, Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), and Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer of HKBU. Also present were Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, along with members of the Entrepreneur Committee and Young Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, as well as Deans and Heads of HKBU.

Launched in the academic year 2023-2024, the Extended Study Programme enables HKBU and BNBU students to study credit-bearing programmes at both the Kowloon Tong and Zhuhai campuses and participate in experiential learning activities. Students also have the opportunities to undertake internships at Fortune Global 500 companies.
