Donors, HKBU representatives and beneficiary students gather for a delightful afternoon
The Office of Student Affairs at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held the Scholarship and Financial Aid Donor Appreciation Reception 2024-2025 on 30 April 2025. The event was held to express heartfelt gratitude to donors who have championed HKBU’s scholarship and bursary schemes, while offering beneficiary students an opportunity to personally thank their benefactors. Approximately 230 donors, staff, and students attended the reception.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, extended his sincere appreciation to the donors for their unwavering support. He said that in the academic year 2024-2025, nearly 2,900 scholarships and over 150 bursaries and emergency grants, totalling approximately HK$109 million, were awarded to students.
Notably, Professor Wai highlighted the profound impact of the “First-Generation University Student Fund”. Established in 2017, the fund has amassed over HK$10 million in donations, benefitting more than 2,100 students. It enables students to engage in diverse learning opportunities beyond the classroom, empowering them to unlock their potential, sharpen professional skills, foster innovative thinking and cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility, thereby achieving holistic development.
Furthermore, Professor Wai shared the University’s recent accomplishments, including its rise to the 50th place in the 2025 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, marking its first entry into the top 50 in Asia.
