Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) recently received a generous donation of a shop premise in Sha Tin from Shum’s Investment Limited. This gift will support the School of Chinese Medicine’s effort of providing Chinese medicine clinical and healthcare services. Following a renovation, the property will be transformed into a Chinese medicine clinic, offering discounted services to underprivileged groups and benefitting the wider community.

The gift was initiated by Ms. Sham Lai Ping and Mr. Shum Chee On, Directors of Shum’s Investment Limited. To discuss the details of their philanthropic support, members of the Shum family visited the School of Chinese Medicine on 14 March 2025. They were warmly received by Professor Li Min, who is currently Dean of Chinese Medicine, and other academics.

In recognition of the Shum family’s support, HKBU representatives gathered to thank Mr. and Mrs. Shum Chee On in person on 11 April. During the meeting, Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Shum family for their tremendous trust and support. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to pursuing excellence and delivering top-notch Chinese medicine services to enhance societal well-being. Mr. Shum highlighted his family’s conviction in the efficacy and health benefits of Chinese medicine, and their hope that this contribution will advance the discipline’s role in promoting public health.

Other HKBU representatives present at the meeting included Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School; Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
