HKBU holds naming ceremony for Tin Ka Ping Global Conference Room

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held a naming ceremony for the “Tin Ka Ping Global Conference Room” on 2 June 2025, in recognition of a generous HK$10 million donation from Tin Ka Ping Foundation (the Foundation). This gift has established the Character and Ethics Development Scheme for Students, weaving character-building and experiential activities into the curriculum to foster character development among young people and promote the inheritance of Chinese culture.

Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Tin Wing Sin, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation; Dr. Yuen Pong Yiu, Executive Chairman of the Board of the Foundation; Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court at HKBU and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation; and Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU.

Other attending guests from the Foundation included Mr. Tin Hing Sin, Mr. Tai Hay Lap, BBS, JP, Mr. Leung Pak Yan, members of the Board of the Foundation; and Mr. Bryan Tin, Group Chief Executive Officer. HKBU representatives included Professor Martin Wong, Provost; Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School; Dr. Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer; Professor Andrew Kwok, Associate Vice-President (Curriculum and Pedagogies); Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; as well as other Deans and Heads.

Speaking at the Ceremony, Dr. Kennedy Wong commended the late Dr. Tin Ka Ping as an outstanding entrepreneur and philanthropist, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Tin and the Foundation for their significant contributions to HKBU. He said, “Since establishing the Foundation, Dr. Tin Ka Ping has steadfastly supported educational development across the Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. His family and the Foundation have upheld his vision by generously supporting the University in implementing numerous innovative and impactful academic and cultural initiatives, benefitting countless students.”

Mr. Tin Wing Sin said, “‘The future of China lies in education’ was a phrase that Dr. Tin Ka Ping often emphasised. Upholding this belief, the Foundation is dedicated to promoting educational initiatives across the Greater China region, with a particular focus on youth character development, which was of utmost concern to Dr. Tin. Our collaboration with HKBU to launch the Character and Ethics Development Scheme holds profound significance. Not only does it strengthen the partnership between HKBU and the Foundation, but it also serves as a tribute to Dr. Tin’s enduring legacy.”

Since 1997, Dr. Tin Ka Ping and the Foundation have donated over HK$35 million to HKBU, actively advancing education and supporting the University’s development in various fields to cultivate outstanding talents. 

The “Tin Ka Ping Global Conference Room”, located at the Campus of Creativity, is equipped with cutting-edge wireless presentation systems and conference facilities, including auto-tracking cameras, ceiling array microphones, and professional monitoring speakers. These advanced facilities not only support video conferencing but also facilitate interactive teaching, academic seminars and exchange activities, delivering a comprehensive smart learning experience for teachers and students.
