This fund will support pioneering clinical studies led by Professor Li Min, Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) and Ma Pak Leung Endowed Professor in Innovative Neuromedicine. Professor Li and her team are dedicated to investigating the mechanisms of Atypical Parkinson’s Disease and developing novel treatment strategies utilising traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulas and small-molecule compounds, ultimately enhancing human health and wellbeing worldwide.
Ms. Yu, Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Chairperson of the Standing Committee of Asia Women’s League Limited, has long been devoted to public welfare and community service. As a steadfast supporter of HKBU’s advancements in Chinese medicine, she established scholarships in 2023 to promote excellence among SCM students. She is currently recognised as Honorary Vice-President of the HKBU Foundation.
The University is deeply grateful to Ms. Yu for her philanthropy, made possible through the kind facilitation of Ms. Esther Wong, President of the HKBU Century Club. This donation will significantly bolster the endeavors of the Parkinson’s Disease Research Centre, established in 2014 under SCM to focus on research into this neurodegenerative disease. By integrating TCM with modern medical practices, the Centre has obtained multiple patents for its new and effective medications, driving solid progress in improving patients’ quality of life.
