HKBU state-of-the-art teaching, research and creative facilities for music and arts named Dr. Hung Hin Shiu Gallery, Dr. Hung Yeung Pong Wah Gallery and Elizabeth Hung Wong Activity Room

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held naming ceremonies for the Dr. Hung Hin Shiu Gallery, the Dr. Hung Yeung Pong Wah Gallery and the Elizabeth Hung Wong Activity Room on 17 November 2025, in recognition of the generous donations totalling HK$120 million from Hung Hin Shiu Charitable Foundation Limited, Shiu Pong Enterprises Limited, and the Hung family. The gifts are designated for the University’s strategic development and the nurturing of young musical talent.

Officiating at the ceremony were members of the Hung family, including Dr. Hung Yeung Pong Wah, Mr. Henry Hung, Mr. Billy Hung, Mr. Daniel Hung, and Mrs. Elizabeth Hung Wong. HKBU representatives included Dr. the Hon. Kennedy Y.H. Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU cum Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, and Professor Alex Wai, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU.

Also in attendance were numerous other members of the Hung family. They were joined by HKBU representatives such as Dr. Daniel Tse, GBS, CBE, OBE, JP, President Emeritus, and his wife Mrs. Kitty Tse; Ms. Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Johnny M. Poon, Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research); Professor Rick Wong, Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; and Rev. Dr. Jack Yu, Chaplain.

In his address, Dr. Kennedy Wong expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Hung family for their generous donations. “The Hung family shares a deep bond with HKBU. Since the 1970s, the late Dr. Hung Hin Shiu and members of the Hung family have repeatedly contributed generously and offered valuable insights for the University’s development. We are profoundly grateful for this half-century of care and enthusiastic support,” he remarked.

He also commended Mrs. Elizabeth Hung Wong for her passion for nurturing musical talent, particularly her meticulous planning for the installation of a professional pipe organ at the University. This recent initiative has not only enriched the campus’s musical environment but also benefitted countless students, vividly exemplifying the Hung family’s dedication to education and their tremendous contributions.

The three newly named facilities are located in the Creative Hub at HKBU’s Campus of Creativity. The Dr. Hung Hin Shiu Gallery serves as a key hub for the Academy of Music under the School of Creative Arts at HKBU. It features multiple creative music spaces equipped with top-tier audio and recording systems, integrating arts and technology to inspire innovation.

The Dr. Hung Yeung Pong Wah Gallery includes a 60-seat Global Conference Room, a creative arts lab, and smart classrooms, supporting teaching, seminars, and interdisciplinary exchanges.

The Elizabeth Hung Wong Activity Room houses the renowned C.B. Fisk Opus 158 pipe organ – a three-manual instrument with 33 stops. Its tonal design blends historical and diverse styles, fully showcasing the charm of pipe organ music while advancing the musical and artistic development of HKBU students.
