Organised by the HKBU-NVIDIA Joint AI Laboratory in the Department of Computer Science, in partnership with the Research Office at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), the International Symposium on the Frontiers of AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) was held on campus on 6 March 2026. As part of the University’s 70th anniversary celebrations, the symposium attracted nearly 400 participants, including students, faculty, industry leaders and innovators. It provided a dynamic platform to examine the latest breakthroughs, ethical imperatives and future trajectory in artificial intelligence (AI) and LLMs.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School of HKBU, highlighted that the symposium demonstrated HKBU’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and global engagement. He also commended the ongoing efforts of the HKBU-NVIDIA Joint AI Laboratory for driving pioneering ideas and unlocking transformative advancements for society.
The symposium featured five keynote presentations by distinguished experts from industry and academia. These were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Professor C. Mohan, Distinguished Professor of Science at HKBU. Professor Michael Ng Kwok Po, Dean of Science at HKBU, attended the symposium and delivered the closing remarks, noting that the event brought together global expertise and offered valuable insights into the vast potential of AI.
Established in 2022, the HKBU–NVIDIA Joint AI Laboratory is dedicated to bridging disciplines, connecting academia with industry, translating theory into real-world applications, and boldly pushing the boundaries of what AI can achieve for humanity.
