The HKBU Foundation records with deepest sorrow the passing of Dato' Dr. Cheng Yu Tung, GBM, donor of HKBU, on 29 September 2016. He was 91 years old.

Dr. Cheng, Founder of New World Group and Honorary Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited, who was highly regarded in the business sector. Dr. Cheng was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal by the HKSAR Government in 2008.

In addition to being a prominent entrepreneur, Dr. Cheng was also a well respected philanthropist whose contributions to education are particularly noteworthy. He made generous contributions to support the University’s institutional advancement through the Cheng Yu Tung Foundation which he established in 2008.

The Foundation conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Cheng family at this time of bereavement. Dr. Cheng will always be remembered for his distinguished contributions to the educational and social development of Hong Kong, Mainland China and around the world, as well as his unswerving support for the development of the University.
