The University received a generous donation of HK$5 million from Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun, Managing Directors of Siu On Realty Company Limited, in support of its campus master plan. In recognition of the donors' generosity, the Learning Commons on the sixth floor of the Fong Shu Chuen Library was named the "Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun Learning Commons". A naming ceremony officiated by Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun, Dr. Wilfred Wong, GBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation, and Professor Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 7 October 2016.
At the ceremony, Professor Roland Chin expressed his deep gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun for their steadfast support provided for the University over the years. In his address, he praised Mr. and Mrs. Lee for their devotion to charity and education, as well as their enthusiasm in supporting the improvement of educational, medical and community facilities of their hometown. Their benevolence and contribution to society have set a role model for young people. Professor Chin said the Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun Learning Commons will provide students with an excellent environment for interactive learning.
The ceremony was well attended by family members and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Lee, Mr. Ho Ting Sik, Managing Director of Carrier Stock Investment Co. Ltd., and Mrs. Ho; Dr. Yeung Wing Ming, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation; Mr. Bernard Wu, Honorary Member of the Court, HKBU; as well as staff, students and supporters of the University. After the ceremony, the guests had a tour of the facilities at the Learning Commons.
The Mr. and Mrs. Lee Siu Lun Learning Commons offers a conducive and user-friendly environment with multi-purpose, technologically advanced learning facilities to our students. With an area of about 335 square metres, the Learning Commons can accommodate more than 100 students at any one time. It opens 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
