Splendours of Dunhuang: Jao Tsung-I’s Selected Academic and Art Works Inspired by Dunhuang Culture

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum presented the “Splendours of Dunhuang: Jao Tsung-I’s Selected Academic and Art Works Inspired by Dunhuang Culture”. The exhibition features Professor Jao’s publications, paintings and calligraphy related to Dunhuang art and culture, providing visitors with a glimpse into the great contribution of Professor Jao Tsung-i to Dunhuang studies, as well as the fascination of Dunhuang culture. Professor Jao Tsung-i, GBM, is a renowned master of Sinology and a donor of HKBU. He is currently Honorary Permanent Director of the HKBU Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology.

The Opening Ceremony of the exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum on 23 May 2017. The event was officiated by Professor Jao; The Hon. Leung Chun Ying, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Executive of the HKSAR; and Mr. Yang Jian, Deputy Minister of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR.

Guests and HKBU representatives attending the Ceremony included Dr. Simon Suen, BBS, JP and Mrs. Mary Suen, Honorary Permanent Presidents of the HKBU Foundation; Mr. Wong Ting Chung, BBS, JP, Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation; Mr. Tony Yue, BBS, MH, JP, Director of the HKBU Foundation; Mr. Chan Man Chau, BBS, Senior Member of the HKBU Foundation; Dr. Tang Wai Hung and Dr. Wong Shu Yui, Honorary Patron and Vice-President of the Development Committee of the HKBU Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology respectively; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
