Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine Award Ceremony-cum-Award Winner’s Lecture





HKBU held The Fourth Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine Award Ceremony-cum-Award Winner’s Lecture on 23 March 2018. The Award was presented to Professor Gerhard Franz in recognition of his remarkable contribution to Chinese medicine. Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Cheung On Tak, Founder of the Cheung On Tak Charity Foundation, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Clayton MacKenzie, Provost; and Professor Lyu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine. Guests and HKBU representatives attending the ceremony included Dr. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the School of Chinese Medicine; Ms. Annie Cheung, Mr. Gavin Cheung, Mr. Alex Cheung and Mr. Nelson Cheung, family members of Mr. Cheung On Tak; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
The Award Winner Professor Franz is currently Chairman of the Herbal Medicine Committee of German Pharmacopoeia and Chair Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the University of Regensburg. He has over 45 years of teaching experience in the field of pharmacy education, and he has made tremendous contribution to research related to analysis, quality control and standardisation of European medicinal plants.
The biennial Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine was established in 2011. It aims to recognise scientists and scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the internationalisation of Chinese medicine or breakthroughs in Chinese medicine research for the purpose of fostering the development of Chinese medicine and promoting its modernisation and internationalisation.
