HKBU confers Honorary University Fellowships upon eight distinguished persons

The University held its 14th Honorary University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony on 21 January 2020. Honorary University Fellowships were conferred upon eight distinguished persons, including several members of the HKBU Foundation, in recognition of their significant contributions to society and their staunch support of the University.

The eight recipients are:

  • Ms. Mabel Chan Mei Bo, Founder of Mabel Chan & Co;
  • Mr. Cheng Chak Kuen, Chairman of Dongguan Xingye Trade Development Company Limited (Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation);
  • Mr. Hung Kwong Yee, Founder, Chairman, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ten Pao Group Holdings Limited (Member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation);
  • Mr. Kenneth Kwok Ka Ching, Representative of the Kwok Chung Bo Fun Charitable Foundation (Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation);
  • Ms. Cecilia Lee Sau Wai, JP, Partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu;
  • The Hon. Ma Fung Kwok, SBS, JP, Member of the HKSAR Legislative Council for the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication constituency;
  • Mr. Warren Mok Wah Yeun, MH, Founder and Artistic Director of Opera Hong Kong;
  • Dr. Herman Yau Lai To, renowned film director, cinematographer and writer.


Speaking at the Ceremony, Professor Roland T. Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, acknowledged the outstanding achievements of the eight recipients. He said that apart from making enormous contributions to Hong Kong and HKBU, the Honorary University Fellows have also improved people's lives and changed the world with their unique talents and efforts.

A number of Foundation members also joined the Ceremony to share the joy of the recipients. They included Dr. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP; Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, GBS, JP; Dr. Simon Suen, BBS, JP, and Mrs. Mary Suen; Dr. Justin Chiu; Mr. Brandon Liu, JP; Mrs. Susan So, BBS; Mr. Eric Chen; Dr. Charlie Ip; Mr. Lam Cheung Chuen, Mrs. Lam and Mr. Gabi Lam; Dr. Leung Lun, BBS, MH; Mr. So Wing Kin; Mr. So Chung Ping, MH, Mr. Lam Cho Kwong and Mr. Yiu Yu Hung; Dr. Thomas Tang Wai Hung; and Mr. Mai Shisong.
