Hong Kong Creative Drama Festival

23 July 2020

In order to enhance students’ awareness of daily affairs and their spirit of exploration, as well as to encourage them to use drama language to express themselves, the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning of HKBU has organised the Hong Kong Creative Drama Festival since 2011. Co-organised by the Hong Kong Teachers Drama Association and the Hong Kong Creative Educators Organization, the event aims to inspire creativity among students through interesting drama competitions.

Sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, the Hong Kong Creative Drama Festival sets a specific theme for each year’s competitions. Students participate in teams and each team has 15 minutes for preparation. The topic is announced during preparation time and even more challenging is that every team is given a table and two chairs only while no other props are allowed. Apart from drama competitions, workshops are held to deepen participants’ understanding of dramas.

The 9th Hong Kong Creative Drama Festival was held in 2019 with the theme of “The place we grow up”. The winning team of the Senior Secondary and College category came from HKBU. Their performance was titled “Hong Kong lifestyles: turn night into day”, which according to the judges, it truly reflected most Hong Kong people’s habits and resonated strongly with the audience.
